People who are committed to misunderstanding you do not need more information or explanations; they simply need distance, allowing you to protect your peace instead.

Aging Brings Costly Perspective

Master Silk

Welcome back to Let Me Pull Your Code, The Unfiltered World of Master Silk. I'm your host, Master Silk. If you're a regular listener, welcome home. If you're new to the family, I'm glad you're here. Every Tuesday we sit down together and have honest conversations about life, business, relationships, money, accountability, and the choices that shape who we become. Last week I talked about the best decisions I ever made. Today, I want to talk about the decisions that still visit me late at night. People ask me all the time, Silk, what's it like being 64? And Silk, if you could do it all over again, what would you tell me? I usually laugh because people think getting older means your knees hurt a little more. Your back gets a little stiff. And you need reading glasses. That's not what aging teaches you. Aging teaches perspective. Perspective is expensive. Nobody gives it to you. You earn it. You earn it through bad decisions, broken hearts, failed friendships, business losses, victories, mistakes, success, funerals, birthdays, watching people you grew up with disappear. Watching young people make the same mistakes you made 40 years ago. Looking back, I don't regret getting older. I regret some of the time I wasted becoming older. Today, I'm going to pull your coat on what I got right, what I got wrong, and what I'd never do again.

Stop Waiting And Take Responsibility

Master Silk

What I got right. The first thing I got right was understanding that nobody was coming to rescue me. I learned that lesson young. Life doesn't send the committee to save you. Nobody knocks on your door with a suitcase full of opportunity. Nobody walks into your living room and says, Congratulations, we've decided to make your dreams come true. Life doesn't work like that. I stopped waiting. I started building. I stopped wishing. I started working. I stopped blaming. I started accepting responsibility. Looking back, that decision changed everything. Because once you realize your future belongs to you, nobody can steal it without your permission.

Compassion Without Enabling

Master Silk

What I got wrong, I gave too many people too many chances. Now don't misunderstand me. I'm still compassionate. I'll still help somebody. I'll still mentor somebody, but I don't confuse compassion with permission anymore. When I was younger, I thought everybody deserved another opportunity. Now I know some people don't need another opportunity. They need consequences. Because consequences are what finally force people to grow. I spent years trying to save people who were comfortable drowning. Every time I pulled them out, they jumped right back into the water. Eventually I realized some people don't want a better life. They want someone to make their bad life comfortable. That's a lesson I wish I'd learned 20 years earlier.

Keep Learning And Stay Humble

Master Silk

When I got right, I never stopped learning. People think education ends when school ends. Mine was just getting started. I've learned from books. I've learned from successful people. I've learned from failures. I've learned from people who hated me. Believe it or not, sometimes your enemies teach you more than your friends. Friends encourage you. Enemies expose your weaknesses. Both are valuable if your ego can handle it. One thing I can honestly say, I've never walked into a room believing I was the smartest person there. Because the moment you think you've learned everything, you've already stopped growing.

Protect Peace Over Reputation

Master Silk

What I got wrong. I wasted time trying to convince people who had already made up their minds about me. What a waste. Some people decide who you are before they ever meet you. Some decide they don't like you because somebody else told them not to. Some will misunderstand you no matter how clearly you explain yourself. I used to spend energy correcting every rumor, defending every accusation, explaining every decision. Not anymore. Here's why. People committed to misunderstanding you don't need more information. They need distance. Today, I protect my peace instead of defending my reputation. Because the people who matter already know my character. And the people who don't usually aren't interested in learning it anyway. So, fuck them. What I got right.

Choose Respect Over Being Liked

Master Silk

I learned the difference between being respected and being liked. When I was younger, I wanted both. Now, I'll choose respect every single time. Being liked is emotional. Respect is earned. People like you because you're entertaining. They respect you because you're consistent. People like you because you're generous. They respect you because you have standards. I've learned something over the years. People often dislike boundaries until they need someone who has them. That's why I stopped trying to become popular. I focused on becoming dependable. Popularity fades. Character doesn't. What I got wrong.

Success Creates New Critics

Master Silk

I thought success would silence critics. That might be one of the biggest lies I ever believed. I honestly thought if I work hard enough, build enough, help enough people, eventually everybody will respect me. I couldn't have been more wrong. Success doesn't eliminate critics, it creates new ones. Some people become uncomfortable when your life reminds them of the excuses they've been making. That isn't your responsibility. Once I understood that, I stopped chasing approval. I started chasing purpose. And let me tell you something, purpose sleeps a whole lot better than popularity. I'll give you an example. I am currently worth over eight figures. I actually have enough money to set up my entire family and their offsprings for life. But I still have family and friends barely scraping by that have lost access to me for various reasons. Reasons I won't get into on here. Those of you that know me know the reasons. They anticipate my downfall. They pray for it. Sorry to disappoint

Money Is A Tool Not Home

Master Silk

them. When I got right, one thing I absolutely got right was learning that money is a tool, not a destination. When I was younger, like a lot of people, I thought making more money would solve most of my problems. Then I started making more money and realized something. Money solves financial problems. It doesn't solve character problems. It doesn't fix loneliness. It doesn't repair a broken marriage. It doesn't make your children respect you. It doesn't buy loyalty. It doesn't give you peace. Money is like gasoline. It helps you get where you're going, but it doesn't tell you where you should be headed. I've met wealthy people who were absolutely miserable. I've met people with modest incomes who smiled every single day because they had peace in their homes. Looking back, I was right to pursue financial freedom. But I was even more right when I realized that freedom meant more than dollars. Freedom meant owning my time. Freedom meant choosing who I spent my days with. Freedom meant never having to betray my principles just to pay a bill. That's real will.

Stop Proving People Wrong

Master Silk

What I got wrong. I spent too much time trying to prove people wrong. I don't anymore. When you're young, criticism feels personal. Somebody doubts you and you feel like you've got to show them. Somebody says you can't do something, and suddenly your whole life becomes a mission to prove them wrong. I live some of those years. Then one day it hit me. Even if I prove every critic wrong, they'll just find something else to criticize. Some people are committed to misunderstanding you because it protects them from confronting themselves. I finally stopped living for their approval. Now I build for the people who believe in me. The people who want to grow. Those are my people. Everybody else, they're just passing through. What I got

Peace Is Built With Boundaries

Master Silk

right. I learned that peace is worth protecting. At 23, I loved excitement. At 33, I wanted success. At 43, I wanted stability. At 53, I wanted freedom. Now, at 64, I want and have peace. Peace isn't something you stumble across. You build it. You build it by saying no. You build it by walking away from unnecessary drama. You build it by refusing to argue with people who enjoy arguing. You build it by protecting your mornings, your evenings, your family, your health, and your purpose. People think peace is passive. It isn't. Peace is expensive. It costs you fake friendships. It costs you toxic relationships. It costs you ego. It costs you needing to win every argument. But let me tell you something, I'd rather lose an argument than lose my peace. Every single time.

Advice To My 25-Year-Old Self

Master Silk

If I could talk to my 25-year-old self. If I had one hour with the 25-year-old Master Silk, I'd tell him, slow down. You don't have to impress everybody. The people who matter will recognize your value without all the noise. Invest earlier. Read more. Listen twice as much as you talk. Take care of your body because one day you'll wish you had. Travel more. Call your family more often. Don't stay in relationships after the respect has disappeared. Don't confuse being needed with being loved. Learn the difference between attention and admiration. Never stop asking questions. Protect your name. Protect your peace. Protect your word. Because once people know your word means something, doors start opening that money can't buy. And one more thing. Stop worrying about people who are never going where you're headed.

The Legacy That Actually Matters

Master Silk

The legacy I hope to leave. People ask me sometimes, what do you want people to remember about you? It isn't the businesses. It isn't the money. It isn't the cars. It isn't the titles. Those things are temporary. I hope people remember that I tried to tell the truth, even when it wasn't popular. I hope people remember that I gave people something real instead of telling them what they wanted to hear. If somebody listens to this podcast five years from now or ten years from now, and one conversation helps them avoid one bad decision, and everything I've lived through was worth talking about. That's legacy. Not being remembered because you were famous, being remembered because you were useful.

Start Before You Feel Ready

Master Silk

Today's business spotlight is for everyone who's been waiting for the right time. Let me save you some years. The right time rarely announces itself. Start the business, register the LLC, write the first chapter, open the online store, take the class, make the phone call. Stop waiting until you feel ready. Most successful people weren't ready. They were simply willing.

Your Word Is Your Real Wealth

Master Silk

Here's your code pool of the week. One day, your name will come up in a conversation and you won't be in the room. People won't talk about how expensive your watch was. They won't remember what kind of car you drove. Most won't remember how much money you had. They'll remember how you treated people, whether your word meant something, whether you kept your promises, whether you showed up when it mattered, whether you made people feel stronger after talking to you or smaller. That's your real legacy. Everything else is just decoration. So stop living for applause. Stop comparing your life to people who are putting on a performance for strangers. Build character. Protect your integrity. Keep your word. Those things never go out of style. As I look back at six to four years of life, I don't see perfection, I see growth. I see mistakes that taught me humility. I see victories that taught me gratitude. I see losses that taught me resilience. And I see people who came into my life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. Every one of them taught me something. If tomorrow were my last day, I wouldn't ask for another luxury car, another business, another title. I'd ask for one more conversation with the people I love, one more chance to tell them I appreciate them, one more opportunity to leave somebody better than I found them. Because when this journey is over, that's what will matter. Not what I owned, but who I helped.
